AstraZeneca is committed to improving cardiovascular care around the world and has a broad range of highly effective products targeted at this substantial area of medical need.
For the treatment of hypertension, AstraZeneca offers products belonging to the major drug classes. This ensures that specialists and general practitioners have a broad range of anti-hypertensive medication available and allows therapy to be tailored to the patient’s individual requirements. These drugs include amongst other Atacand®, Atacand Plus®, Imdur®, Inderal-range® Plendil®, Ramace®, Tenoretic®, Tenormin®, Zestoretic® and Zestril®.
For the treatment of hypercholesterolaemia AstraZeneca has Crestor®, the newest member of the statin family. Crestor® , reduces elevated LDL-cholesterol, total cholesterol and triglycerides and increases HDL-cholesterol.
Crestor®, is indicated for patients with primary hypercholesterolaemia, mixed dyslipidaemia and isolated hypertriglyceridaemia (including Fredrickson Type IIa, IIb and IV; and heterozygous familial hypercholesterolaemia) as an adjunct to diet when response to diet and exercise is inadequate.
Crestor® is also indicated in patients with homozygous familial hypercholesterolaemia, either alone or as an adjunct to diet and other lipid lowering treatments (e.g. LDL apheresis).[1]
